NBA ALL STAR WEEKEND

So far this has been the most electric All Star weekend I can remember in the recent past. The Rookie Challenge was a fantastic start!! There was everything a fan wants to see. Highlight dunks, competitive spirit, and great energy. Then on saturday, TNT had a few programs to build you up for the All Star Saturday Night. these were actually quite entertaining and really put me in a great mood for watching the event. Every year it seems like they just talked about which dunk, dunker, or contest was the best. It was the same all the time. 'Nique vs MJ, or Vincanity? But this year they took a different turn. Showing the greatest dunks that may have been underscored or overshadowed. What a great show!! Oh and I almost forgot to mention Sir Charles pickin Allen Iverson over Jordan on the all star fantasy draft. That was hilarious!! I am not sure if he should be allowed to be an analyst after that one...
Then the big show started off. The crowd seemed to have the right energy right from the get go. Through the shooting stars and into the skills challenge, it was really good energy. Then the three point shootout was really close and exciting. The main event; The Dunk Contest. This was by far the greatest first round of dunks I have ever seen! Before this I enjoyed watching the amatuer dunkers more than the NBA guys. But this group really brought the creativity back. I think they should go back to having the judges score the final instead of taking a fan vote. It seems like the Dunkers are less competitive due to this change. There is no set score after the first dunk that a guy needs to beat. But overall, what a great night! I cant wait to see what tomorrow brings!

My First Time In The Cage

Lamarcus Aldridge, All Star Snubbee

We all know how great of a basketball player Lamarcus Aldridge is.  He is one of only three players this season currently averaging 22pts and 9reb a game.  The other two made the all star roster... Why not him?  I will tell you why. Because he plays for the Portland Trail Blazers.  A small market team.  There is not nearly as much money in marketing someone from Portland as there is for shall we say, someone from LA.  Even if that LA player is from a team not even close to playoff contention.  And what is up with Yao Ming always getting voted on?? Do these people even watch basketball? Or do they just think the tallest guy deserves the vote?  I think there should be a statistical requirement in order for players to be eligible to be voted for as a starter.  Not a huge one.  Just like 28mpg, 15ppg, and at least 4reb, or 4asst unless they are the leader in a significant stat catagory.  Oh and maybe the should only be players from the top 16 teams.  I just hate how every year there are one or two players voted in that do not deserve it.  Then players like Lamarcus dont even have room to make the reserves.  Come NBA!! Lets clean this up a bit!
